It's reflection time. I used to be better at this. At the end of every school year, I would write down one thing I learned from each of my students. I will never forget doing that on the last day of school when my students were busy playing with the puzzles and games for the last time of kindergarten, and I tearily sat and reflected on the year. I would look at each child and write down one little nugget of truth they taught me that year. I don't know why I stopped doing that, but I need it. It's necessary. Reflection makes me grateful, thoughtful, and just better.
So here goes, some reflection on 2011.
Best Books: The Hunger Games series. I have not gotten that lost in a story well...ever.
Currently rereading it and highlighting.
Best Movie: The Pianist. I know I'm a little late on this one, but I hadn't seen it, and found it particularly amazing in light of the power grabs going on in our time.
Best Trip: Maui, Maui, Maui - Enough said
Best Purchase: Our new adventure-mobile, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Best Meal: Stack at The Mirage in Las Vegas. Seriously the best burger I've ever experienced, and such a fun, romantic weekend with my favorite person.
Best Celebrations: The month of October delivered big in this category. First, my brother David and Emily's wedding back in Wisconsin which was so beautiful, sweet, and simple and a great family gathering. Second, our Halloween party. I love hosting a good party! You know it's a fun one when the cops show up because of neighborhood complaints of whistles blowing.
Best Insights Learned: It is still worth it to fight for what's right.
If you're not moving in the direction of what you want, you're
moving away from it.
Happy 2012!
