V and J have been with us full time for exactly a month, and we are definitely still trying to figure out how in the world to get anything else done. But, I really want to get the whole story down here on the blog. It's taking me a little longer than anticipated (like most things are - welcome to parenting, instant mama of a toddler and a preschooler), so for more day-to-day details in real time, follow me on Instagram.
We found out we were chosen for the girls on Feb. 19th. After our initial meeting with V and J's DCS case worker on Feb. 23rd, there was more waiting. This was not as hard as the two weeks of waiting to find out if we were chosen. It was tolerable, because we at lease had a picture of them now! We knew who they were. It was also fun announcing it to close family and friends. One of my favorite things about this time in our lives will always be listening to Jeremiah tell people about our girls for the first time over the phone. Listening to him talk about our daughters with such pride and excitement got me every time.
Everybody kept asking me if I was dying to meet them, but the truth was I was really OK most days. There was plenty to do, so we were rushing around trying to do all the things that needed to wait until we knew what ages our children would be. There was a crib and toddler bed to be purchased, along with the cutest little outdoor chairs you ever did see. You better believe getting the little IKEA play kitchen set up was a top priority. I'd been eying that up for quite some time, and might have been more excited to play with it than the girls. I was so excited about all the cuteness that I forgot a crib mattress among other things, which turned out to be awesome because a friend of a friend ended up offering me her higher quality mattress, so I took her up on it.
Friends were amazing during this time! Checking to see how the wait was coming, texting us to ask what size our girls were, and sharing in the fun. My teacher friends dropped off this table-full of goodies, packages started arriving from excited family members with dresses and headbands.
After one more trip to IKEA and many Target runs and Amazon Prime orders, we were feeling as ready as we could be to meet these little ladies, but it would still be a few more days. We actually would be meeting our new extended bonus family first.
