So, I am here in Arizona! It has truly been a whirlwind. I left Tuesday afternoon. I was so sad about leaving my house and my garden. There is something so difficult about leaving something you've worked so hard on before you get to see all the fruits of your labor. I had tried growing some vegetables for the first time this year. As I was watering the garden for the last time before I left, I was mourning the fact that I wouldn't get to enjoy any of the veggies, because it was just too early. When I got to the tomato plant I was so pleasantly surprised to see exactly one tiny cherry tomato, perfectly red and ready to be eaten on the vine. It was like my garden was giving me a little going away present. I gobbled it up with a sense of satisfaction and courage to move on to something new.
I got in to Phoenix at about 7:00 p.m. and it was 113 degrees. Yikes! But, air conditioning is a beautiful thing. I spent yesterday running around between H.R. and the AZ Dept. of Ed. filling out new hire paper work and getting emergency certified. At the dept. of ed. there was a very nice man named Kirk who was from Greenfield, WI originally and told me I would miss sweet corn and good pizza. He promptly processed my teaching certificate because I was a cheesehead in his words. That was a sigh of relief because I wasn't quite sure I would have it in time to start with kids on Aug. 10th.
So, here I am, grateful for tomatoes and teaching certificates and ready to start new teacher orientation on Friday.
